One of my favourite sights of spring: larch trees in flower. The upright pink ones are the elegant, showy females in their rosy party dresses – the males are the compact pollen-bearers, in tidy yellow-brown suits, clinging to the undersides of the branches.  You can see a couple of females and a male in this photo I snapped late last week.

I’m so pleased that I managed to catch them in bloom this year – I sometimes miss the window!

What a beautiful tree. I’ve never seen on in person. I bet it’s just breathtaking! Thank you for sharing. Koko 🙂

I should take a photo of the whole tree, not just a branch! They are lovely – especially in the autumn, when the needles turn a brilliant yellow colour.

I love larch trees. That’s. agreat shot of the flowers. I rarely see them as our larch trees have no low branches!

My favourite tree! These particular specimens are fairly young and small – they were planted less than a decade ago so they still have a lot of low branches that I could easily access for photos.

I have never seen one of these trees. Beautiful.

They are very attractive – they have lovely soft needles and the needles turn bright yellow in autumn. Visitors flock to the mountains to see them during that time.

The only larch I have ever seen were on my Pa’s farm on the Olympic Peninsula. We do not have them here. I have never noticed their bloom.

The blooms are so short-lived you really have to know when to catch them. Larch are pretty common here in the wild, not so much in urban areas.

I would not know them in the wild. I only know those that my Pa grows for bonsai stock.
