Your tags suggest it’s a crocus — but it’s not like any crocus I’ve ever seen. It is beautiful.

Yes, it’s our very lovely prairie crocus, Pulsatilla patens: http://www.wildaboutflowers.ca/plant_detail.php?Prairie-Crocus-81. It is one tough little thing!

Mind? Au contraire! I love it. Spring and its delights never get old.

I love the craziness of this time of year – the changeable weather, the new growth. It always feels like you’re experiencing it all for the first time.

Traditions are good. ๐Ÿ™‚ Do you find the crocus appears at almost the same time each year? Or are you seeing changes in their arrival which you could attribute to climate change?

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

I haven’t really noticed a change in their bloom time over the past several years; their schedule seems pretty much the same. About three years ago (may have been four?), they were much later than usual as our heavy snows lingered on the ground into May. That’s not typical for the snow to stick around that long – we may get snowfall right up into June, but it doesn’t last in those warmer months.

Nicely done (as always), Sheryl. Where I live, we won’t be even thinking about flowers for another month.

      Thanks!

We need more sunshine to kickstart those flowers, that’s for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚
