Sure…blue flax might be common, and its propensity to reseed all over the place is only endearing to some of us, but how can you go wrong with those flowers?

Hope your weekend is fantastic!

This is a beautiful flower and one of my favorite colors. I told someone the other day that even the weeds are beautiful to photograph. God made such a beautiful world for us to enjoy.

Lovely. I couldn’t grow it the one time I tried. I’d be happy to have it reseeding anywhere; is it easy to pull out?

It is actually nice and easy to yank if it decides to grow where it isn’t wanted. But I love it and usually let it do as it pleases…. ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish blue flax were common in Maine—I’ve never seen it before. What a beautiful shade of blue, my favorite color.

They are so gorgeous! I like the long, feathery stems, too – they look great moving in a breeze.

I don’t thinkk blue flax is common around here. Wonderful color.

Maybe it prefers the cold north…. I love it in the garden as it blooms now and then again when it is cooler in early fall.

That’s so pretty! Is it flax like the flax that linen comes from, do you know?

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

It’s related, but not the same. This blue flax is a cultivar (I can’t recall which one, maybe ‘Blue Sapphire’) of Linum perenne, and linen is made from L. usitatissimum. I was thinking more about this when I read your comment and I’m now curious if we grow much L. usitatissimum for fibre in Canada. Will have to see if I can find any statistics online. Very interesting!

I agree – I don’t have a problem with it reseeding everywhere! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you’re enjoying Stampede! That storm this afternoon was pretty wicked, I hope it wasn’t too nasty down at the grounds.
