I don’t grow a lot of kohlrabi, but it is a definite staple in my garden each year! It really doesn’t require much care from me…I just need to keep the plants watered consistently so they produce meristems (the main part you eat) that don’t become woody in texture. Unless you are growing the giant varieties, harvest the plants before the meristems get outrageously large so that they remain tender. I like to peel, then slice kohlrabi into strips and eat it raw (so good!), or boil it and mash it in with new potatoes and a little bit of butter or drizzle of olive oil. Did you grow kohlrabi this year? What are your favourite ways to eat it?

We don’t grow it or eat it ourselves. My in-laws are the only ones who grow the vegetable, in our families, that I am aware of.
I’ve eaten kohlrabi raw it’s very good. But, I’ve also sliced it, added carrots and onions then BBQ’d it
Gee, I have never grown it. I have not eaten it since prior to 1990. I grow only a few of the cruciferous vegetables.
I have never grown or tasted kohlrabi. I didn’t even know which part one was supposed to eat. Thanks for this very informative post, Now, that we know which part to eat we should try it.
