Some of my salpiglossis (painted tongue) babies under lights in the kitchen … if you have never grown these bold blooms before, treat yourself this year by purchasing some transplants from your local garden centre and tucking them into your containers. These petunia relatives bring a bit of tropical appeal to landscapes that are decidedly untropical – like here, on the prairies. My little ones are almost three weeks out from sowing.

    Those are really cool plants and I grew them once. We use them as winter annuals here. The plants are hard to find, but I think I will look into some seeds to start next fall.
