My amaryllis started blooming this week … this is Hippeastrum cybister ‘Chico’. Such a wonderful treat! It is grey and gloomy here today and I can’t stop staring at these brilliant flowers.

Do you grow amaryllis? If so, which are your favourite cultivars? Show me photos, if you can – I’d love a bit more colour in my world today!

I do not grow any of the fancy amaryllis, but the common sort, Amaryllis belladonna (which are obviously not a species or cultivar of Hippeastrum) grow wild on the roadsides. When I deadhead them, I collect seed, as if I can accommodate more. (!?)

My amaryllis got stuck in the post but arrived yesterday and are potted now. They include ‘Chico’ so I hope mine looks as great as yours ๐Ÿ™‚

Lovely! I grew this one once too. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I had a peachy pink one called ‘Susan’ last year which was very nice. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Gorgeous! I had one like this one December – a gift from a friend — but it didn’t rebloom. They are beautiful.

Gorgeous! How extraordinary that they bloom in winter. Sheryl, I wish you a beautiful holiday season, and an extra-special happy and healthy New Year! Ramona
