Time for an update!
Janet Melrose and I recently collaborated with Dr. Keith Briggs on a document that we hope will be useful to zone 4 gardeners: Guide to Perennial Horticultural Plants suitable for 2024 Canadian Plant Hardiness Zone 4. You’ll find it on the University of Alberta ERA site. A huge thank you to Dr. Briggs for spearheading the project, and for devoting so much time and work to get it published!
The writing continues … Janet and I are currently working together on another gardening book, to be published by TouchWood Editions in Spring 2026. We are also in the process of completing the edits on a title that will be released in November of this year (again, published by TouchWood Editions).
I am also working solo on a book project for Orca Book Publishers, another title in their incredible Footprints series.
We have to keep hush-hush about all of these projects for now, but very soon we’ll be able to reveal more!
Events
I’ll be speaking about seed saving and storage at Sexsmith Seedy Saturday. I’m looking very forward to doing an event in northern Alberta and seeing family and friends.

Janet and I are excited to be back at Calgary Seedy Saturday in 2025! I will be doing a presentation about troubleshooting seedling issues and how to take on transplanting tasks with success.
Janet and I are delighted to be participating in Edmonton Seedy Sunday once again this year! Janet will be doing a talk about soil during this event.
Janet and I are celebrating a double book launch on Tuesday, March 25 at 7 pm at Shelf Life Books in Calgary, Alberta (1302 4 St. SW #100). Join us as we chat about all things houseplants and have a little birthday party for our two new book babies!
