This remarkable ”badland” surrounding the Red Deer River valley in central Alberta provided one of the most interesting and fun hikes I have ever been on. We went on an amazingly hot day in April, when the prairie crocuses were in full bloom and garter snakes were crossing the highway on their way out of their hibernaculum somewhere at the top of the canyon.
