This remarkable ”badland” surrounding the Red Deer River valley in central Alberta provided one of the most interesting and fun hikes I have ever been on. We went on an amazingly hot day in April, when the prairie crocuses were in full bloom and garter snakes were crossing the highway on their way out of their hibernaculum somewhere at the top of the canyon.

This article offers an Indigenous perspective of the history of Dry Island Buffalo Jump and the archaeology of the area.

Glad you had a great hike, Sheryl. (I wonder if you were having such very hot days while we were overwhelmed with rain…) That’s a wonderful image you share here.

The Buffalo Jump area is awesome. We watched the interactive display at the Center. Related to the exigencies & desolateness of living
