I completely understand why this is considered one of the finest snowshoe treks in Kananaskis Country, in the Canadian Rockies.ย  My hubby and I did this one a week ago, and we were fortunate to share this utterly incredible space with a few cheeky gray jays and a moose that gave our salt-flecked truck a helpful (!) scrub.ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Spectacular! And very obliging of the moose.

We didn’t expect a free car wash with our visit – a lovely bonus!

Well! We have the possibility of a few flakes in our forecast — so there!

More seriously, this is a gorgeous landscape, although I can’t quite remember how I ever stayed warm in that stuff. I know we did, through ice skating, snowman building, sledding, and snowshoeing, but here I sit in a 68 degree house, trying to get the courage to go out into 40 degrees!

I heard that snow was in your forecast – I couldn’t believe it. Did it actually materialize?

      1. shoreacres Avatar

It did! I’ve been up watching it and taking some photos since 4 a.m.!

        1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

Wow! I read somewhere that it’s been almost a decade since you’ve had snow. Must be a bit magical…. (Unless you have to go out on the roads, that is!).

I do miss the snow, but only a little bit! Those are postcard quality shots for sure!

How is it on the island at this time of year? Is it dry? I would imagine the rains are more in the spring…. I hope you’re doing well – I’m happy to hear from you!

RAIN RAIN RAIN all winter long! It is hard to imagine that we often run out of water in the summertime!

        1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

          I didn’t think it would be such a wet season…shows what I know, lol….

Beautiful. I can’t believe the moose came right up to your car.

Apparently the moose in this particular area have been doing this year after year; they know where to get an easy source of salt! Last year, Parks Canada issued a warning to people visiting the Lake to “not push moose away from cars.” Even though they’re wild animals and absolutely massive, some fearless individuals were actually trying to physically move them away from their vehicles when it was time to leave. I can’t imagine – I was terrified of getting in the way of this one!

What an amazing shot of your car and the moose. ๐Ÿ™‚

My hubby took that photo – he had the long lens on the camera, as we were a bit nervous of getting too close. The moose was very involved in her work, however, and didn’t pay us any attention.

She was definitely the star of the show!

That moose knows what a good “salt lick” is ๐Ÿ™‚

Such a beautiful place and your photos are wonderful! I love the moose too!

Thanks so much! My hubby and I shared photography duties on this venture – I was too nervous to take the moose photos, LOL!

      1. Clare Pooley Avatar

๐Ÿ˜€ I would be too! They are enormous! (enormoose?)

        1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

          I love it – “enormoose,” indeed! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gorgeous scenery but the photo of the moose ‘moose-ing’ the salty car is a real winner.

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

I love that: “moose-ing” = the perfect word for it! We had to take the truck into the “real” car wash when we got home for to get all the slobber off….

      1. Gallivanta Avatar

Goodness, moose slobber. That’s a step up from the insect mess which we usually have to get off our car windscreen after a trip into the country

  11. Born To Organize Avatar

Wow! What an incredible encounter, even if the moose did slobber all over your car. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

It was definitely a treat to see her up close like that; quite often, our moose sightings have been at a distance (and very few and far between).

That is SO cool! I’m so glad you caught a picture of it!!

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

Absolutely HAD to take a few photos – not something you see everyday, that’s for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚

that Moose is licking the salt off of the car. They need salt during the winter months even more so.

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

They do indeed! And this one is resourceful – she knows an easy way to get it! ๐Ÿ™‚

    what a great story!

It was a great day; the moose was definitely a highlight for us!

  15. skyblueseagreen Avatar

Sheryl, that is a lovely photo of the snow on the grass! I have tried that many times in Fish Creek park and it is a difficult shot–you captured it beautifully!

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

Thanks so much, Ramona! I took that photo at Nose Hill – both the frost and the light were absolutely perfect that morning, I just happened to be there at the right time. Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

That’s a beautiful landscape! Fun to see the moose too!

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

We were so surprised and pleased to see the moose! Beautiful animals.

  17. plaidcamper Avatar

Wonderful! I’d love for a moose to stop by and visit our car – we see them so rarely. Might have to head out there sometime soon, when the car is particularly unwashed…

    1. Sheryl @ Flowery Prose Avatar

Yes, that’s a great plan! Conditions will be great for a snowshoe in the next few days; sounds like we’re in for a good dump of fresh snow…. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. plaidcamper Avatar

We’ve had that snow – now got to find the time to get out and enjoy it!

  18. Cynthia Reyes Avatar

Now, how could I have missed this? Wondrous photos, both!
    Happy new year, Sheryl!

It was such a fun trip, with incredible scenery. And seeing that moose was something special. ๐Ÿ™‚
