Like a church bell, a coffin, and a vat of melted chocolate, a supply closet is rarely a comfortable place to hide.
– Lemony Snicket, The Blank Book
No need for an uncomfortable supply closet here!
Isn’t nature incredible?
(Photo taken at the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, July 2014).
Wow!! Amazing camouflage.
It’s just perfect, isn’t it?
Incredible for sure. Love the quote too
Lemony Snicket always makes me smile. 🙂
😀
Wow, had to look hard there!
I can’t imagine how a person would spot these insects in the wild – I’d walk right by them every time.
Sheryl, great photograph, nature is incredible.
It really is! I read somewhere that in the wild, leaf insects even flutter their wings just a little bit to mimic leaves blowing in the wind. Amazing. This little guy stayed very still the whole time we watched him.
That IS incredible! I’ll take that vat of melted chocolate any day…. 😉
Mmmmmm…chocolate…. 😉
Oh, how cool! It’s a good thing you told us to look!
It is astonishing how perfect the mimicry is.
Mother Nature is Awesome indeed! Great Pic! Johanna
Thanks, Johanna! We live in such an amazing world, full of surprises…. 🙂
Pure artistry! We found one this fall on a tree trunk, just by chance (I was collecting Maianthemum) – perfect blended in!
It would have been fascinating to come across one like that!
Yes she is brilliant especially when we don’t meddle with her too often!
So true!
Amazing….
I so agree!
Aren’t they incredible. Great photo and accompanying quote.
Thanks! It was fun to photograph the leaf insects – there were a few stick insects in another terrarium as well. Fascinating.
Wow, that’s amazing, I’m so glad you shared this photo.
I’m delighted that you like it – it was definitely interesting to see!
Beautiful – amazing how an insect just blends in with his surroundings – smart 🙂 Great photo!
A perfect foil for predators – truly amazing, that’s for sure!
I’m not sure what I’m seeing. Is it the rounded thing? Help!
I’ve shot this photo quite close, so the leaf insect appears larger than it really was…it’s like “Where’s Waldo?”, isn’t it?
