‘Autumn Joy’, indeed. As always, I am delighted by this ubiquitous Sedum (I mean Hylotelephium) – it is seriously the very last plant blooming in my garden, bravely weathering multiple heavy frosts and more than one snowfall. But this might actually be it for the year.
Do you grow any Sedum spp. (ahem, Hylotelephium)?
Yes, I love Sedums. The first things to show shoots in spring and the last to go in the autumn! Can’t get my tongue around the new name yet though… I am still struggling with asters – symphy something or other…..?!
LOL I’m not sure why these new names have to be so difficult – I have to check the spelling a million times, and then there’s the pronunciation…. 😉 I was just visiting your blog and spotted your fantastic Hallowe’en arrangement – beautifully done!
Gorgeous, Sheryl.
They are such a brilliant colour!
I do grow sedums, as many as will stand our climate. And I love my Autumn Joy, too!
So many cultivars to choose from – it’s wonderful!
I have some in a huge pot on the stoop; this year they didn’t bloom. Scary. I was thinking no bees…but perhaps not.
Curious – they’re usually pretty reliable, aren’t they?
I really like them as well. I have a couple that I planted this year called Blue Pearl (apparently, I liked them so much in the catalogue that I bought them twice. LOL) and one growing in my raised bed by the garage that just showed up, kind of like the lady’s mantle. It has pink flowers and is quite pretty but I don’t know what kind it is.
Oooh ‘Blue Pearl’ is a beauty – did you order it from the east? I don’t think I’ve seen it locally…will have to do more searching.
Mine are in pots and heading for the greenhouse. No frost here yet.
A nice safe winter home! Have you had frost by now? (I’m so late with my replies…).
No frost here yet. We are still too warm for autumn. 😦
Brave little plant, indeed. So bright, pretty, and pink under that snow.
Hanging on despite the crazy weather…. 🙂
The winter is during long enough .These late flowers i enjoyed it
So true! It’s always nice to have some bright colour late in the season!
Are we not allowed to call them sedums any more? I love them and have grown them in other gardens but not in this one – yet!
They’ve undergone a name change…unfortunately, the new one is long and cumbersome. 😦
I love the fact that there are so many different cultivars – I think I have to add a few more in my garden next year!
Yes I used to have Sedum Autumn Joy in my garden and always appreciated how easy it was to grow. A real fall beauty!
Definitely tough and dependable…and pretty!
I have no Sedums. I would like one cause they are beautiful. I do have a plant that looks like broccoli except the top is pink. It is the last thing to bloom in our garden.
Jean
That sounds like a really pretty plant…a bright splash of colour at the end of the season. 🙂
